Thriller
Conventions:Thriller movies would usually be about a detective trying to solve a crime and getting in to trouble by doing so and he/she would also make new discoveries while solving the crime.It also might be about the life of crime and it could be centered on crime lords.

Sci-Fi
Conventions:A sci-fi movies would usually be about UFO's invading the earth or about the discovery of aliens which could lead to conflict with aliens and humans.The films could usually involve the lead characters being aliens and the film being shown from an aliens point of veiw.Sci-fis also involve humans going in to space and making new discoverys.
Iconogrophy:Aliens,space,spaceships,rockets,crop circles,planets.




Romantic Comedy (hybrid)
Conventions:The film would usually be set in a big city like New York and the characters would usually be in their twentys and single. It could also be set in high school involving a guy who doesn't usually get the girl but at the end he does.The characters would usually be a man and a woman and they would fall in love but they won't get together till the end because things keep going wrong.Romanctic comedies are usually very predictable in the sense that you know the characters are going to be get together at the end. The male character is usually a typical 'loser' and 'geek' if the film is set in high school and he would usually have a crush on the female character who would usually be popular and a cheerleader.

Western film genre
Hi welcome to my blog, I'm researching urban realism and discussing different film genres, identifying they're convetions and iconography.Western movies are usually set in the desert in usually southern america ,they normally involve cowboys and horses.They would also involve guns and rival gangs that have 'shoots outs'.This is what we expect to see in a typical western movies because we have a good understanding on the film genre.The good, bad and the ugly is a typical western film that includes many of the genre'sconventions.The good, bad and the ugly is a spaghetti western film which is a subgenre that involves italian film makers.The weird west is used to describe a western film crossed with another genre for example horror, fantasy, thriller.

Urban Realism
Kidulthood, Boys in the hood and Bullet boy all fit in to the genre of urban realism.The genre usually involves boys often ''thugs'' that come from usually poor working or lower class.They are often young teenagers who hang around in gangs and commit crimes.They are usually troubled and have bad attitude.They are usually set in the streets in the rougher parts of the city,they also usually live in councel estates.I have compared both trailers of two films bullet boy and boys in the hood and they have many similarities despite one of them being in Britain the other in America, this is because its a stereotypical potrayel of crime ridden cities and usually people of african heritage.



Horror Film Genre.
Horror movies are usually set in an isolated town or a haunted house because killings are more likely to be commited their.They would usually involve a group of people that would get killed one after the other by a mysterious killer that doesn't get revealed until the end of the movie.Horror films would also involve an unexpected twist and they would usually involve supernatural things that would usually commit the murders are they wouldn't be revealed until the end to create a sense of mystery and fear. These are the things we expect to see in a horror movie because we have gotten used to horror movies that usually involve these conventions, we have stereotyped horror movies to be that way.What we expect to see in a horror film would be blood, mysterious person or creature, deaths, knives, haunted houses. This is the iconogrophy we would usually expect to see in a horror movie.

Boyz in the hood

Conventions:
Boyz in the hood is a film that fits in to the urban realist genre its a about a teenager called trey who grew up in the hood and through out the film we see his friends involved in crime and him trying to get out of it.The conventions usually are the films setting is in a rough area of LA, which is quite poor and crime ridden.The plot usually follows a person who is involved in crime but usually trying to get out of it but it often ends in tradegy.The characters are either strong minded characters that want to go down the right path or they are  characters that are usually involved in crime and force the other characters into it.These characters constrast with eachother and conflict is created between the characters.The characters are typically dressed in a thugs typical clothing hoods, tracksuits and chunky jewellery.

Boyx

Bullet Boy

Bullet Boy is a movie which follows the typical conventions of an urban realist film for example

Conventions:

Bullet boy is set in a rough area of london which the lead character Ricky lives in a council estate which is a typical convention of an urban realist film.The plot involves Ricky who has just come out of prison because of a crime he committed, he tries to resist crime but is quickly involved again.The film involves murder and gun and knife crime.

Knives,Guns,Gangsters,Hoods,drugs, Under-age sex.
